Meet the Coaching Staff.

Larry Sancomb  – Head Coach

Coach Sancomb comes to FC Baltimore after spectacular success with Christos FC. The team made a deep run in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup. They became a national darling by scoring the first goal against DC United of Major League Soccer.

In addition to his success with Christos FC, Larry has been heavily involved with Olympic Development, High School, Youth and College Soccer in Baltimore since 1994. Send Coach Sancomb an email.

Lucio Gonzaga  – Assistant Coach

Coach Gonzaga has been a successful coach at the Sao Caetano Youth Academy in Brazil, Maryland United, Premier SC, Loyola Blakefield and St. Timothy School. In his youth days, Gonzaga grew up playing with Thiago Mota in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Coach Gonzaga has a reputation for technical and attacking mastery. His playing career includes pro contracts with Racing Club of Montevideo (Uruguay), Sao Caetano (Brazil), Chivas (Mexico), Real Maryland, Crystal Palace Baltimore and a recent over 30 National Championship with Christos FC. Gonzaga also played pro indoor soccer for the Baltimore Blast, Harrisburg Heat, Ontario Fury and New Jersey Ironmen.

Mike Lookingland  – Assistant Coach

Coach Lookingland played at Bucknell University, earning Third Team All American honors. In 2005, Real Salt Lake selected Lookingland in the second round of the MLS Supplemental Draft. He spent two seasons in Salt Lake. In addition to his outdoor career, Lookingland had an extensive indoor career. In 2005, he signed with the Baltimore Blast, being named to the 2005–2006 All Rookie team and in 2012 named MISL Defender of the Year.

Mike’s passion has been coaching.  He started Dynasty Sports Academy, has coached for Celtic, Pipeline and currently with the Baltimore Armour Academy. Mike holds his United States Soccer Federation “A” license.

Jim Fendryk Jr.  – Assistant Coach

Brought up through the Baltimore area soccer system, coach Fendryk understands the local winning traditions better than anyone.  Having graduated Calvert Hall in 2001, he played youth soccer for Soccer Club of Baltimore Bays (where he was also a teammate of FC Baltimore assistant coach Mike Lookingland), and then attended and starred at UMBC.  After graduation he joined Christos FC, first as a player and later as a coach.

He has coached for the Christos FC, Baltimore Bays, CCBC Essex, and at theJohn Carroll School. He has won at each of his stops, with multiple national championships with Christos FC and NJCAA National Tournament Appearances with CCBC Essex.

Phil Saunders  – Goalkeeper Coach

Coach Saunders is currently the head coach at CCBC at Catonsville. He is also the Director of Goalkeeping at Baltimore Union.

Phil played professionally for two years in the Icelandic First Division for Bi/Bolungarvik. He also featured for the Baltimore Blast.

Before his pro career, Phil played for UMBC. Phil is tied for 2nd most shutouts in program history. He played youth soccer for the Baltimore Bays- where he won the Golden Glove award for best keeper in the nation.
